•Jesus descended into hell for a couple of different reasons – we must keep in mind we are not given a intricate account of everything that He experienced in hell, in the Word.

> First off Jesus became a man to live as a man – to die a death for the penalty of sin – to then experience what every human experiences after this life closes.

> No person dying prior to the Redemption ever went to heaven with the acceptation of Enoch, Elijah and Moses.

> The reason in include Moses is because of the following Scriptures.

> First God buried Moses' body.

Deut 34:5-6
5 So Moses the servant of the LORD died there in the land of Moab, according to the word of the LORD.
6 And He buried him in a valley in the land of Moab, opposite Beth Peor; but no one knows his grave to this day.

> God then sent Michael to retrieve the body of Moses.

Jude 9
9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"

> We know Moses showed up on the Mount of Transfiguration with Elijah.

•Now everyone else when they died went to a place called Hades or Sheol i.e. the land of the dead.

> There were two compartments In Hell separated from each other. One called paradise the other torment.

> Everyone dying placing their trust in the LORD to send a Messiah to redeem them went to paradise – everyone who did evil or that trusted in their own works to torment.

> Jesus was not speaking just a parable here I believe is a actual account.

Luke 16:19-20, 22-23
19 "There was a certain rich man who was clothed in purple and fine linen and fared sumptuously every day.
20 But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, full of sores, who was laid at his gate,

> The rich man was (who had more then enough) was not willing to help the poor man.

22 So it was that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried.
23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

> Here we have a real place – with real conscience people who see – hear and speak.

Luke 16:24-26
24 Then he cried and said, 'Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.'
25 But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted and you are tormented.
26 And besides all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.'

> This was literally the way it worked from the time of Adam and Eve until the morning Jesus came out of the grave.

Luke 23:42-43
42 Then he said to Jesus, "Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom."
43 And Jesus said to him, "Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise."

•We know Jesus went into paradise or what He called Abraham’s bosom.

> We know that the people that were in this part of Sheol were taken to heaven with Jesus after His Resurrection from the dead. They are referred to as captives that Jesus led to heaven.

Eph 4:8-13
8 Therefore He says: "When He ascended on high, He led captivity captive, And gave gifts to men."
9(Now this, "He ascended"--what does it mean but that He also first descended into the lower parts of the earth?
10 He who descended is also the One who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things.)
11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

> He also went into the other parts of hell.

1 Peter 3:18-19
18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
19 by whom also He went and preached to the spirits in prison,

•He also took the authority (keys) of death and hell away from Satan.

Rev 1:17-18
17 And when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But He laid His right hand on me, saying to me, "Do not be afraid; I am the First and the Last.
18 I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore. Amen. And I have the keys of Hades and of Death.

> Now when any true believer dies they do not descend into the land of the dead because Christ made them alive with Him!

2 Cor. 5:7-8
7 For we walk by faith, not by sight.
8 We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.

> Where is the LORD Jesus today? In heaven – so He now has the authority to take anyone to heaven He desires because Christ defeated death once and for all!

> If a person goes to hell today it was their choice and not the LORDS doings.
